對NBA印地安納溜馬和喬治（Paul George）來說，克里夫蘭騎士、詹姆斯（LeBron James）在東區是一道很難跨越的大山，溜馬想要爭冠，就得先擺平強大的騎士，喬治想要帶領溜馬統治東區，他就得挑戰聯盟第一人詹姆斯。
騎士連續兩年摘下東區冠軍，無人能敵，詹姆斯已經連續六年率領球隊打進NBA總冠軍賽，成就斐然，以詹姆斯的年紀、體能現況和騎士組合，詹姆斯極可能創造連續八年打進總冠軍賽成就，在東區無人能擋。
目前東區想要挑戰騎士，具有扳倒騎士能力的球隊，最被期待的是塞爾蒂克和上季東區第二暴龍，以及最近悄悄完成補強，信心和板凳都得到提升的溜馬。
喬治在接受SLAM灌籃雜誌採訪時強調，「我們今年夏天透過交易和簽約做了有效補強，板凳更齊，接下來目標就是重返東區決賽，中鋒傑佛森（Al Jefferson）、後衛提格（Jeff Teague ）、前鋒楊恩（Thaddeus Young ）加入我們球隊，我們終於有了更好的陣容深度，但仍需要時間磨合，眼前一切都讓我們充滿信心。」
